Find and register the right domain name

A domain name is the address people type to find your website, such as yourbusiness.co.uk. It is easier to remember than the numeric IP address of the server your site lives on, and it also gives you matching email addresses like hello@yourbusiness.co.uk.

If you want a website or a professional email address, yes. A domain of your own looks more trustworthy than a free subdomain or a generic email account, it is yours to keep, and it can move with you if you ever change hosting provider.

For a UK business, .co.uk or .uk is usually the strongest choice because customers recognise it as local. If you trade internationally, .com is the most familiar. Many businesses register both, and the variations people might mistype, so nobody else can use them.

Yes. For most extensions you unlock the domain at your current registrar, request the transfer (EPP/auth) code and start the transfer with us. For .uk and .co.uk domains you change the IPS tag at your current provider instead. Your website and email stay online while it moves, and any time left on your registration carries over.

Most .uk domains move within a few hours once the IPS tag is changed. Other extensions, such as .com, usually take up to five days while the current registrar releases the domain, although it is often quicker.

Nameservers tell the internet where your domain’s DNS records live. Private nameservers let you use your own branded names, such as ns1.yourbusiness.co.uk and ns2.yourbusiness.co.uk, instead of ours. They are popular with resellers and agencies, because clients see your brand rather than your hosting provider’s.

Register the nameserver names (also called glue records or child nameservers) against your domain in your ResellerSpace account, pointing each one at the IP address we give you. Then set those names as the nameservers for any domain you want to use them with. Changes usually take effect within a few hours as DNS updates around the world.

DNS is the set of records that connects your domain to your website, email and other services, for example A, CNAME, MX and TXT records. You can add, edit and remove records yourself from your ResellerSpace account, or keep using external nameservers if you prefer.

Yes. Privacy protection is included at no extra cost on every eligible domain, so your name, email address and phone number stay out of public WHOIS and RDAP lookups. For .uk domains registered by individuals, Nominet already withholds personal details by default.

We send reminders before the renewal date, and you can switch on auto-renew so the domain never lapses by accident. If a domain does expire, there is usually a short grace period to renew it before it can be released to someone else.
